CMS analysis to implement in online shops
In this article we talk about the three free CMS to implement online shops (Oscommerce, Prestashop, Magento), CMS to develop online shops designs.
Magento:
We’d like to highlight the installation process, if you have some experience in managing websites it might be easy for you to manage the panel control. However, if you or your client are not very used to this, it might be a bit difficult to manage this. Is not a platform for new users, but if you have a little programming knowledge, it will be so easy and you can handle everything.
Magento is recommended for big projects or big enterprises, however it is highly recommended to have programming knowledge.
To use Magento you’d need a VPS or a dedicated server so the online shop works fine, as well as performance control applications are hardly recommended. In order to edit the Magento core it is also highly recommended to have minimum knowledge to avoid issues. It is a very powerful tool, but knowledge is required.
TO HIGHLIGHT:
- Very potent.
- It allows multi-shops.
- Search based on Ajax.
- Control Panel is super complete.
- It allows customization.
- Order management is very complete.
- Responsive version is default.
- Alternative payment methods in case of error.
- CSS compilator (Saas/ Compass).
- Secure and stable.
Prestashop:
The control panel is complete and intuitive for final users. It is quite easy to manage the entire shop, create categories, products, control clients, etc.
It’s being improved constantly and bug reports are treated seriously in a weekly basis, which makes it the quicker throughout the 3 we are commenting.
It works using modules so it is easy to add new functionalities to the application core.
Oscommerce:
Nowadays the version is 3, but it still has some obsolete code and presents some bugs in it… This is why most of users prefer Prestashop or Magento.
The new version added CSS and more structured code, some security issues were solved and the behaviour is better. However, this is not enough, Prestashop and Magento are winning the race, as they have a more prepared and bigger human team behind, adding constant improvements and making the tools more powerful.
