DAY BY DAY WITH MAGENTO INTERVIEW TO MIREIA CASTANYE
AS WE PROMISE IN ONE OF OUR PAST POST BLOG, WE WILL EXPLAIN YOU WITH MORE DETAILS THE DAY A DAY WITH MAGENTO. TODAY WE HAVE THE PLEASURE OF INTERVIEWING THE WEB4COMMERCE PROJECT MANAGER, TO EXPLAIN US FROM ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW WHAT IT IS FOR HER TO WORK WITH MAGENTO.
As many of you will know, Magento is a platform that makes it easy to create an online store with the best tools. Thus, our team is mainly dedicated to developing different projects with the Magento platform and today we have the pleasure of being able to conduct an interview with the Project manager of Web4Commerce, Mireia Castanye, and talk about her day to day with Magento as well as ask for her opinion.
How would you explain your day to day with Magento?
“Normally my day to day with Magento is to learn how the tool works. That is, what type of software is used or can be integrated, what kind of profiles work with these types of software and, with my partner Kirian, CTO of Web4Commerce, we constantly work hand in hand to analyze what things are feasible or not to do and / or develop in Magento. It is about analyzing what things come from the base in the software or to what extent they have to be customized, which means that you have to develop custom code, but you have to make sure that such customization does not interfere with the base code (“core”) from Magento. In summary, my day to day is to learn a lot and act as an intermediary between the internal development team and the clients. For me it is very important, before starting a project, to gather information and investigate the material needed to launch online commerce, whether for development, for design or other configurations necessary to start the online store. For this I have to be in constant contact with the internal team and the client, in order to solve all their needs. ”
As a Web4Commerce project manager, what are your responsibilities?
“Mainly, as Project Manager I receive a project request, from that we develop with the team requirements to define the different parts of it. Basically the phases of a project would be: the definition of the project, the functional description or the required functionalities, which we define from the analysis with all the information collected. Then comes one of the most critical parts of a project, planning, in which you have to draw the resource map, timings and the organization of the following phases of development. So we have finished the development, we will go to the test part to verify that the project requirements are correct and that the operation of the store is as expected. From here, we prepare to launch E-commerce, always with the prior approval of the client.
Once we have all these phases carried out, we start the online commerce, but in the incubation phase, since changes and incidents can arise. We carry out all these processes and phases because we do not want to have any failures and we want to make sure that we meet the client’s requirements. ”
What tools would you recommend Magento to your customers?
“Two tools that I would recommend from Magento would be:
- Customization of the order status: it is vital for customers to know the order status in “real time”. For customers it is a section that must be very visual and dynamic, the good thing is that it is already integrated in Magento which is an advantage compared to the competition, but we usually go further customizing with color legends or custom states. Even so, most of the time the order management has an integration with a third-party ERP and this is where the complications come, because you have to make integrations through specific APIs and others.
- Dashboard: in the internal dashboard tool of electronic commerce, which comes by default in Magento, although at a very basic level, it allows you to customize and personalize it to your liking by adding functions. It allows you a constant update of your business and gives you the information in real time that allows you to evaluate basic business development data such as: best selling products, total sales, recurring customers, etc. This is very useful for obtaining extensive information data from e-commerce, which is very useful for analyzing the data and for proposing strategic improvements at the “business” level.
What advantages would you recommend about Magento to create an Ecommerce?
“In my humble opinion, one of the main advantages that Magento offers, compared to other softwares, is the volume of catalog that is capable of assuming, scalability, customer management and the amount of options it offers with the management of prices, that is to say, the virguerías that allows to realize with discounts or personalized promotions, etc, more complicated to realize with other softwares. Magento allows you to make many adjustments without having any problem because it is a very stable platform.
Magento has two types of versions CE and Enterprise, the first is free and both are Open Source. The second does have a license cost and is intended for large companies. Anyway, there is nothing to miss in the Community version, because the possibilities are endless. You just have to keep in mind that the only cost is web maintenance and the necessary development in the creation of the store, which will only be paid at the beginning when it is developed. ”
We have been able to see similar opinions of the tool, comparing the last interview made to Francesc Guardiola CEO of Web4Commerce and the interview made today to Mireia Castanye, Project Manager of the company. Although they have different functions in the company, it has been seen between the two interviews conducted that have similar opinions. Either by the functionalities or the tools that have commented. So, we believe that Magento is a good solution to create your electronic commerce, always going through a previous analysis of customer needs.
